Getting The Right Colour

Most gates you see come in a handful of standard finishes, and anthracite grey and black do suit a lot of homes. This customer, though, wanted something that matched more closely to their property, so we went down the RAL route.

RAL is simply a colour-matching system, a big chart of set shades each with its own number, used across paints and coatings. It means you can pick an exact colour and know the gates will come back in that shade, every panel the same. Choose a RAL reference to sit with your brickwork, your window frames or your front door, and the gates end up looking like part of the house rather than an afterthought.

Why Bespoke Beats Off-The-Shelf

Every driveway we visit is a slightly different width, on a slightly different slope, next to a slightly different house. Standard gates ask for your entrance to fit them. Bespoke gates work the other way round.

For this home, that meant sizing the gates to the opening carefully, choosing a bell-top and vision bars to suit the frontage, and matching the colour to the property. The result is a set of gates that look like part of the original build, which is what most people have in mind when they imagine gates on their own drive. You can see the range of styles on our aluminium gates page, and browse finishes and colours as part of any bespoke gate design with us.

Simple To Use

Not every automated gate needs an intercom or an app. This customer wanted something straightforward, so we set the gates up to run from a push button. One press opens them to come in, another sends them closed behind you, and that’s the whole story.

It’s a nice option if the people using the gates are mostly the household, rather than a stream of visitors needing to be buzzed in. There’s less to learn and less to go wrong, and it still gives you the security of gates that stay shut until you open them. Should the customer ever want to add an intercom later, the groundwork is there.

The Benefits of Aluminium

We built these in aluminium for the same reason we recommend it to a lot of customers. It doesn’t rust, it handles the Sussex weather without complaint, and a powder-coated RAL finish holds its colour well over the years rather than fading or flaking. For a gate that’s on show at the front of the house every single day, that staying power matters.

Paired with the clean bell-top shape and the vision bars letting a little light through, the customer ended up with gates that bring security, style and convenience to the entrance without shouting about it.

The Result

The finished gates do their job and suit the house, which was the whole point. The driveway is secure, the colour ties the frontage together, and running the gates is as easy as pressing a button. If they ever need a service or a small repair over the years, we’re just up the road, and we look after the gates we install.

Can I really have any colour I want?

More or less, yes. Through the RAL system you can pick from a very wide range of set colours and have the gates powder-coated to match. It’s how we get gates to sit with a specific brick, render or door colour.

Are push-button gates secure enough?

They are. The button controls the gates, and the gates stay closed and hold firm until you press it. For a household that mainly wants easy access for itself, push-button operation is a tidy, secure setup.

Do you only fit bespoke aluminium gates in Uckfield?

Not at all. Uckfield is home for us, but we design bespoke gates for homeowners right across Sussex, Kent and Surrey, including Crowborough, Heathfield, Haywards Heath and beyond.
