The Challenge

The owner wanted something that brought a bit of presence and security to the driveway, without committing to a gate they’d be revarnishing every other summer. The answer was simple: anthracite grey aluminium gates. The brick piers were already there, well-built and solid, so any new gate had to hang neatly off the existing brickwork without major groundworks or disruption to the front garden. The look had to feel modern, but not out of place against the property; the maintenance had to be sensible; and the operation, day to day, had to be straightforward, which is why a manual setup made sense.

Our Approach

A set of anthracite grey aluminium gates with vision bars was a natural fit for this property in East Sussex. Aluminium gives you the clean, contemporary look of a powder-coated finish without the maintenance penalty of timber: no sanding, no revarnishing, no sticky catches in a wet winter. The anthracite grey works on a wide range of properties, from period homes to newer builds, and the vision bars open the entrance up visually, so it doesn’t feel closed in. Going manual kept the installation simple and the budget sensible, and the gates can always be retrofitted with automation further down the line if the customer changes their mind.

The Installation

We measured up against the existing brick piers carefully so the gates would hang true and close cleanly without any drag. Hinge brackets were fixed straight into the brickwork, levelled, and given a proper test before the gates went on. Once they were hung, we adjusted the meeting point and the catch so the gates closed neatly with a single hand, and walked the customer through the everyday operation. The aluminium frames are kind to the piers and to the moving parts, which keeps things smooth in the long run, and the powder-coated finish takes the worst of a Sussex winter in its stride.

A Simple Project, Done Properly

We’ve fitted a lot of aluminium gates across Heathfield, Hailsham, Lewes, Eastbourne and the wider area, and the appeal is usually the same: people want the look of a smart, contemporary gate, but they don’t want a maintenance project. Aluminium delivers all three of our signature benefits in one package: security, style and convenience. It also pairs well with brick piers, which a lot of properties already have in place, so the work is often quicker and less disruptive than people expect.
