The Challenge

A homeowner in East Sussex needed a high-quality entrance gate that would provide privacy, security, and smart access control. The gate had to fit between existing brick piers and suit the traditional character of the property. The client also wanted to manage access remotely using a smartphone-controlled video intercom system.

Our Approach

We recommended a bespoke Iroko hardwood gate with integrated vision bars. Iroko is a naturally durable hardwood well suited to the UK climate, offering excellent weather resistance and a warm, classic grain that complemented the existing brickwork perfectly.

To keep the entrance clean and uncluttered, we specified Roger Technology below-ground gate operators – a market-leading automation solution that delivers quiet, reliable performance without any visible mechanical equipment above ground. For access control, we installed a WiFi video intercom, allowing the homeowner to see, speak with, and grant entry to visitors directly from their smartphone, whether at home or away.

The Installation

The bespoke Iroko gate was manufactured to fit precisely between the existing brick piers and mounted using heavy-duty ironmongery. A protective oil finish was applied to enhance the timber’s natural colour and grain while improving its long-term resistance to the elements.

Vision bars were incorporated into the upper section of the gate, giving the homeowner controlled visibility of the entrance from within the property – improving security awareness without compromising privacy.

The Roger Technology below-ground automation was carefully installed with all motors, linkages, wiring, and control units fully concealed, preserving the clean, traditional appearance of the entrance. The system operates quietly and smoothly, with no visible hardware to detract from the gate’s aesthetic.

The WiFi-enabled video intercom was configured to the client’s smartphone, providing full remote access control. The homeowner can now monitor and manage gate entry from anywhere – a practical and reassuring feature for a busy household.
